New Australian Biome at Marwell Zoo

I couldn’t resist going up to Marwell Zoo to see the new Australian biome that has been built in the location of the old Encounter Village.  The other week when I was up there it looked like it might not be ready in time for the opening for Easter weekend, but it was.

I knew Marwell would be packed – Easter is always one of the busiest times of the year and with the sun shining too everyone was up there – but I arrived early and managed to avoid the worst of the crowds.

The Australian Bush walk, where visitors can walk through the wallabies, needs a little time to settle in after the development, but the wallabies seem at home already bounding around and totally ignoring an electric fence that was in place to keep them away from the park edge!

Kookaburra
The new walkthrough kookaburras were my highlight though.  They are gorgeous birds and they certainly didn’t mind posing for the cameras.  This little guy was quite happy with a camera stuck just inches from his face!

More of my photographs can be found on my Marwell set on Flickr.
