Day 6 – Sunday: MGM Studios

Back to Disney today to visit MGM Studios. The two big thrill rides we wanted to get on before the queues built up were the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith and the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror.

The parks have been fairly quiet so far, but as it was the weekend we thought it would be busier today, but it still wasn’t too bad and thanks to the Fastpass system we didn’t have to queue for anything. On arrival we picked up a Fastpass for the Tower and then headed over to ride the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. It’s an indoor rollercoaster with a few twists and turns (naturally!) although I kept those quiet from Stef before we went in! The best part is the initial rocket out of the station which leaves you glued to your seat.

Twilight Zone Tower of Terror
The Tower of Terror was my favourite ride at MGM. Set inside a creepy, haunted hotel you shoot up 13 stories in the lift and then experience a random sequence of drops and climbs inside the hotel whilst parts of the walls open to give you brief bird’s eye glimpses of the park!

There are quite a few shows at MGM – we only really visited the Disney-MGM Studios Backlot Tour. It was quite good fun, but I’d been to the one at EuroDisney before and there wasn’t much difference. I’ve also seen the Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show in EuroDisney before that was very good, but we decided not to go again as the show time in the morning didn’t fit in well with our Fastpass and we’d had enough by early afternoon.

With the exception of the Tower of Terror, which was excellent, I found MGM a little disappointing in comparison to the other parks so far although it may have been because many of the attractions were similar to those at EuroDisney and so weren’t new to me.

More of my photographs from MGM can be found on my Florida Flickr set.
