Day 14 – Monday: Blizzard Beach and Downtown Disney

Sadly, we fly home today.  Our flight isn’t until late afternoon though, and we had to be out of the villa by 10am so we didn’t want to waste our last day.  So we decided to visit Blizzard Beach water park.

Blizzard Beach is set our in the style of a ski resort complete with mountains and (fake!) snow.  We took the chair lift up to the top of the mountain to ride Teamboat Springs which is a 1200 foot long water slide where you ride a family sized raft.  It was my favourite ride in the park!

There were a lot of other water slides and a lazy river called Cross Country Creek where you could float endlessly round on a rubber ring.  We weren’t brave enough to ride the world’s tallest and fastest free-fall body slide – the Summit Plummet – but we clocked people going at over 55 mph!

After Blizzard Beach we went to Downtown Disney for a quick look around the shops and visit to the DisneyQuest Indoor Interactive Theme Park.  Stef wanted to visit the Lego shop and in the end bought himself some magnetic lego Star Wars characters to brighten his office wall!

Inside the DisneyQuest Theme Park there were quite a few rides and things to do.  I’d read about the CyberSpace Mountain where you could build and then ride your own virtual rollercoaster – and been on a similar one at EuroDisney.  Unfortunately, the queues were a bit too long so we didn’t bother waiting.  We went on Invasion! An ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter ride and ended up getting ourselves blown up!

Finally, it was time to head back to the airport for the flight home.  We’d managed to find an internet cafe yesterday so had checked in online again.  The fast bag drop area at Orlando was much better than back at Gatwick and we didn’t have to queue which made going home less painful!

Flying overnight home had it’s advantages – it meant we got another full day to end our holiday rather than a wasted few hours – however, I can never sleep on planes and so it was a real struggle staying awake the next day!
