Florida Villa

Front of the villa and our rental carDuring our holiday we rented Lakeside Villa, based south of Orlando on the Southern Dunes Golf and Country Club in Haines City.  We spent some time looking around for somewhere to book that would offer us everything we wanted – private pool, nice and scenic view rather than staring out onto hundreds of other villas and within reasonable distance of places we wanted to visit.  We were also pleased to find that the house had free wireless internet which made looking up maps and places to eat and checking in online before we came home really handy.

The lake at the back of our villaLakeside Villa was really nice and very reasonably priced.  The photographs on the villa website of the view didn’t disappoint in real life and we found the Southern Dunes resort to be a lovely and relaxing place to be staying.  There was plenty of wildlife to watch including herons, crane, squirrels, lizards and various other birds, and we even found a snake by the pool one evening.  The resident four Sandhill Crane’s were often spotted near the entrance to the resort or wandering around the lake by our villa – we felt quite sorry for one who we nicknamed Half Leg for obvious reasons!

Half leg, the local friendly birdFor families with young children it is possibly slightly further away from the main theme parks than some villas – taking between 25 -40 minutes to get to Disney and Universal parks on most mornings – which may be a disadvantage.  The petrol is cheap compared to England though, and the roads straight forward so we didn’t find it much extra hassle.

The villa had 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and an extra toilet, lounge, dining room, kitchen and a garage which had been turned into a bit of a playroom with games table.  Outside the pool wasn’t huge, but plenty big enough for the size of the house – plus there was a larger community pool right over the road from the villa.  It felt a little chilly when we first got in, but that was probably because we were so hot as the weather was gorgeous and in the 90’s most of the holiday.

Birds on the golf courseOverall, we would recommend the villa, and certainly consider staying again if we go back to Florida.  There are some additional photographs in my Florida 2008 set on Flickr.

    Wow, sounds super!

I loved florida, my villa that I had while I was in orlando had a stunning
golf course with funny animals (looked like squirrels but they were a funny colour)

There were 8 of us when we went and had such a great time.

The swimming pool was just right, the only thing I wish we has done was to
hire a car to get around, and we missed out on going to disney 😦

We loved out luxury florida villa and would go back tomorrow if we could!

Thank you for the sensible critique. Me and my neighbor
were just preparing to do some research on this. We
got a grab a book from our area library but I think I learned more from this post.
I am very glad to see such fantastic info being shared freely out there.
